Archer Camerin Pickering just two wins away from Olympic Games
Archer Camerin Pickering is just two wins away from qualifying for the Olympic Games after making it into the quarter-finals of the Continental Qualifier of the Americas in Colombia.
The Bermudian made it through to the quarter-finals of the men’s recurve individual competition after beating compatriot Jaydon Roberts in the qualification round and Guatemalan Thomas Flossbach in the round of 16.
Pickering must make it to the final in Medellin if he is to make it to Paris this summer and has his work cut on Wednesday, when he steps back on to the target range to face third seed Ticas Oscar, of El Salvador, in his quarter-final.
Pickering, 24, has already achieved the Olympic minimum qualifying score when competing at the Hyundai Archery World Cup Stage 4 in Paris last August.
Bermuda is also being represented in Colombia by Bernard Wade, who lost his qualifying round match 6-4 against Venezuelan Luis Sanchez.
Also advancing to the quarter-finals yesterday was top seed Nicholas D’Amour of the US Virgin Islands, second seed Santiago Arcila of Colombia, fourth seed Jorge Enriquez, who also hails from the hosts country, fifth seed Mario Damian Jajarabilla of Argentina, ninth seed Andres Hernandez, of Colombia, and tenth seed Javier Vega Valle from Cuba.
The America’s individual Olympic qualifying competition will be followed by the team qualifying event to commence tomorrow.
Bermuda’s archers are being accompanied in the South American country by head coach Ross Roberts and assistant coach Trina Roberts.
