Jaydon Roberts advances from qualifying round in El Salvador
Jaydon Roberts has made it past the qualifying stage at the Pan American Youth and Masters Championships in El Salvador.
Competing in the under-21 men’s recurve category among a formidable field of 22 archers on the opening day of the event on Wednesday, the 18-year -old finishedd twelfth in the qualification round with a score of 612 from a possible 720 to advance to the elimination round.
“I felt really good going into the qualifying round,” Roberts told The Royal Gazette. “I am happy with my overall score and my finishing position.”
Roberts wasted no time making the necessary adjustments as he prepares for the first elimination round on Thursday, when he will continue his attempt to secure one of the spots on offer fo the Junior Pan American Games in Paraguay next year.
“There are some adjustments I have made to ready myself for the eliminations tomorrow and overall feeling good,” he added.
The teenager athlete is being accompanied at the event by his father, coach and former competitor Ross Roberts, who was pleased with his son’s display in the qualifying round.
“I am pleased with the result from today’s qualifying round,” he said.
“The wind conditions were a bit tricky. However, the result was good and we are ready for the elimination rounds tomorrow.”
There are nine countries being represented at the ongoing championships in El Salvador, which concludes on Sunday.
