Yushae DeSilva-Andrade through to quarter-final despite loss in second pool match
Yushae DeSilva-Andrade qualified for the quarter-finals of the Paralympics boccia tournament despite suffering defeat in her second pool match at the Paralympics this morning.
The Bermudian was beaten 5-1 by Hirumi Endo, with the defeat meaning she qualifies second in pool C behind the Japanese player with one win and one loss from her two games.
After beating Poland’s Kinga Koza 4-1 in her opening game on Thursday, DeSilva-Andrade’s confidence was high going into her second fixture but she was never able to recover from a poor start with Endo going 3-0 up after the first end and picking up a single shot in the second to lead 4-0 at the halfway point.
DeSilva-Andrade pulled a shot back in the third end but Endo sealed victory by picking up a further point in the final end.
However, the 31-year-old knew that she had already qualified for the knockout stages after Endo beat Koza in their pool match yesterday and she now plays Qi Zhang of China in the quarter-finals at 2.35pm Bermuda time this afternoon.
