As the international beach volleyball season continues, Bermuda will be represented in two events on the North American, Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation Beach Tour in Dominican Republic.

Benjamin Barnett and Sean Tucker are in Punta Cana to compete in the senior men’s competition from Wednesday to Friday, with Cayman Islands and Dominican Republic opponents in their group.

Next week the island will field men and women’s teams in an under-23 tournament ,with Alexander Southern and Braedon Cooke and Kaylee Trott and Hailey Trott forming the two partnerships.

Participating countries at the competition include the United States, Canada, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, US Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Guatemala, St Kitts & Nevis and St Vincent.

The Norceca  Beach Tour is the signature event for the North American, Central American and Caribbean zone and Brandon Sousa, the Bermuda Volleyball Association co-president, is pleased the island is competing with the best in the region.

“Our athletes have worked incredibly hard throughout the year, and it’s rewarding to see them compete at such a high level,’’ Sousa said.

“These Norceca Tour Stops are a crucial opportunity for them to not only compete against some of the best teams in our region, but also to represent Bermuda on the international stage.

“We’re especially excited to capitalise on the success of our under-21 teams that represented Bermuda last month in St Kitts & Nevis.

“Their determination and achievements have set the stage for continued growth in our beach volleyball programme.

“I’m confident that this next group of athletes, with their passion and perseverance, will leave a lasting impact on our beach volleyball programme and Bermuda as a whole.”
