Archery National Championships to take place on Saturday
The National Archery Association of Bermuda is holding its Outdoor National Championships on Saturday at Gold Point Archery Range in St George’s.
In the last outdoor event of the season, archers will be shooting at targets from distances of nine metres, 18 metres, 30 metres, 50 metres, 60 metres and the Olympic distance of 70 metres.
The distance of 9 to 18 metres allows yeoman and bowman archers exposure to competition as part of their development. The distance of 30 metres is for athletes aged 13 and older as part of their next stage of development and preparation for regional shoots.
Compound shooters’ maximum distance is 50 metres. Cadets and juniors, who are at the standard to compete in International Youth Championships, shoot at 60m and 70m, while senior recurve athletes are shooting the Olympic distance of 70m.
Camerin Pickering and Jaydon Roberts are competing in this weekend’s event and both have shot the Olympic minimum qualification score (640) in a World Archery Ranking event, which brought them very close to achieving a spot at the 2024 Olympic Games.
Pickering holds the national record at 70m for the Senior Recurve Men (646/720) and Roberts holds the national Record at 70m for the Junior Recurve Men (643/720.
The first detail starts at 10.30am tomorrow.
