Storm captain Debré Evans has praised opponents Docksiders for bringing excitement to the league as the winter netball season starts at Bernard Park Netball Courts this evening.

Evans spoke of the vibe that Dockies bring every time they take to the netball court.

“We love playing Dockies because they come with a lot of enthusiasm and energy,’’ Evans said.

“It’s always a joy playing them, they remind you why you love the sport in the first place. Their energy is like no other team. They just have this aura about them that makes you enjoy playing them. Nothing but positivity throughout the game,’’ she added.

“It’s going to be a competitive game, so we’re definitely not going to take any of the teams we face this season lightly.”

Storm, under the mentorship of Kimale Evans, the Bermuda Netball Association president, have strengthened their squad. One of the notable additions to their side is Selah Tuzo, who makes a full return after graduating from York University in Canada.

Amali Powell and Ishan-Nae Smith have also returned to bolster the cause this season.

“This year we have an overflow of players which is new for us,’’ the Storm captain said.

“Over the last five years, we had a total of five true seniors. This meant that we had to field our juniors. But this year we actually have a full team of seniors so it’s going to be an interesting season for us.”

Denise Carpenter, one of the senior players at Docksiders, said they were looking forward to getting back in action.

“We’re excited to get back on the court and can’t wait to kick off the season with a game against Storm,’’ she added.

“The league is always something we look forward to and we’ve had some great training sessions leading up to it. With our returning players and some exciting new additions, we’re anticipating a thrilling season – not just for our team, but for everyone out there on the court.”

Lindo’s Tigers, last season’s runner-up, will look to make a bright start when they go up against Hamilton Parish, who are new to the league.

Since there are seven teams in the league, Phoenix Heat, the defending champions are not in action. One senior match is scheduled for Monday night between Village and St George’s.

Tigers coach Anthony Mouchette indicated that they would not underestimate their opponents.

“The opposition is new to the league so we will not be taking any chances,’’ Mouchette said.

“If we stick to our game plan and execute all the tactical and technical strategies we worked on in training, we should be OK.

“We are ready for whatever comes our way. We have been training since the middle of August with an average of five to seven players per session.”

Parish, who are coached by Deborah Brown and Donna Smith, are excited about their maiden appearance in the league.

“Hamilton Parish Hot Peppers are thrilled to announce the debut of our netball team in the winter league this season,’’ the Parish coaching department said.

“This is a significant milestone for us and we couldn’t be more excited for the journey ahead. We look forward to competing and contributing to the island’s vibrant netball community.”
