Unbeaten Lindo’s Tigers target netball league title
Lindo’s Tigers will go into the Christmas break feeling confident in their pursuit of a maiden Bermuda Netball Association Senior League title as they sit atop the standings.
The Tigers secured their fifth consecutive win of the season on Saturday with a commanding 48-25 victory over defending champions Phoenix Heat. With league play paused for the festive season, the team, led by coach Anthony Mouchette, holds 15 points, two clear of second-placed Storm.
Captain Jahtuere Trott emphasized the team’s desire to win the title for Mouchette, who has dedicated himself to their development.
“I’m super proud of my team for the start of this season,” Trott said. “We’ve been working on improving certain aspects in training, and it’s rewarding to see that reflected in our gameplay.
“Going into the Christmas break unbeaten, with five wins and no losses, is the perfect outcome. This season we are dedicating our play to our coach, who has selflessly invested so much time in us. We want to win it for him. While we still have a long way to go, we plan to finish the second half of the season the same way as the first—on top.”
Despite the strong start, Mouchette is tempering expectations and focusing on the matches ahead.
“We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves as there is still a long way to go,” he said. “Our team has never won the league, with runners-up being our best finish in previous seasons. What’s been key for us is team harmony, new tactics, playing for each other, and maintaining confidence.”
Phoenix Heat, led by captain Kianté Lightbourne, have now suffered back-to-back defeats, including a loss to Storm four days earlier. Lightbourne is determined to see her side rebound after the break.
“Our next match is scheduled for the end of January, so we need to put in work during training to ensure we’re ready to fight for that No 1 spot,” Lightbourne said. “There are also some outstanding matches to be played, so it’s crucial we prepare for what will likely be a busy second half of the season.”
Elsewhere, Docksiders earned their first win of the campaign with a 32-15 victory over Hamilton Parish in a rescheduled match on Wednesday.
