Bermuda beach volleyball team finish 16th in Costa Rica

Kyle Hamilton and Sean Tucker represented Bermuda in Costa Rica

Kyle Hamilton and Sean Tucker finished sixteenth at the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation Beach Tour in Costa Rica today.

The Bermuda team lost out in three sets to Justin Bristol and Jedediah Penchoen, of St Kitts & Nevis, going down 21-18, 18-21, 7-15 in the play-off for fifteenth place.

It proved to be a tough tournament for the Bermuda pair, who were drawn in pool D alongside teams from Costa Rica, British Virgin Islands and El Salvador, with Hamilton and Tucker losing all three group matches.

They opened with a straight-sets defeat to Rafael Vargas and Andoni Mejia, from El Salvador before losing by the same scoreline to Julian Araya and Stanley Grant, who were competing for the host nation.

Another straight-sets loss to Devin van Siclen and William Clemens of the Virgin Islands meant Bermuda finished bottom of their pool and were placed into a four-team play-off for teams finishing thirteenth to sixteenth.

Against Lucero Perez and Santiago Penegros, from Guatemala, Tucker and Hamilton won their first set of the tournament but eventually fell shot of a victory, losing 15-21, 22-20, 15-10 to set up a match for the wooden spoon against St Kitts.
