Antonio Pierce’s Raiders creating unwanted records

Las Vegas Raiders coach Antonio Pierce watches on from sidelines

The pressure is growing on Antonio Pierce as his Las Vegas Raiders team created some unwanted records with their latest defeat.

The Raiders lost 15-9 to Atlanta Falcons on Monday night to lose their tenth match in a row, the longest losing streak in the NFL this season, while the run of defeats is also the second-worst in the franchise’s history, beaten only by the run of 13 losses suffered by the 1962 team.

Raiders owner Mark Davis was caught on camera shaking his head on a number of occasions during the match, in which his team gave up a safety, had two blocked punts and produced just 96 yards on their first ten possessions.

In his post-match press conference, Pierce attempted to stay positive but could not hide his disappointment.

“It was a bad day at the office, a real bad day,” he said.

“We need all three phases to play well. Before this we’d lost nine in a row and you just can’t have the mistakes that we did.”

Pierce was asked during his interview if he believed that the players were still fighting for him

"This isn’t about me, it’s not about any individual, it’s about the team,“ Pierce said.

“It’s what we’ve been building on since the off season. At the end of the game everyone is in there loving each other and telling each other to keep fighting. We’re a blue-collar group. We’ll take the day off tomorrow and then get back to it. It’s not about them fighting for me, we’re fighting for one another.”

The Raiders did have a chance with the very last play as quarterback Desmond Ridder threw a hail mary with just two seconds left on the clock but Pierce was left bemoaning his luck.

“It was a jump-ball situation and we’ve seen in the league this year where it goes both ways,” Pierce said.

“Hell, we need a break, we need a little prayer but it just didn’t go our way. Do I want to win? Hell, yeah I want to win. I don’t want to sit here looking at the same godamm thing every week.

“But these guys are not budging and I’m not budging. We’re going to keep chopping wood and at some point the damn thing will break and go our way.”

Pierce will be hoping for that to happen on Sunday when the Raiders travel to Jacksonville to take on the struggling Jaguars, who are 3-11 this season
