Hunt on for new coach of senior women’s volleyball team
The search is on for a new head coach for Bermuda’s senior women’s volleyball team.
The Bermuda Volleyball Association has advertised the position on Instagram and Facebook, with a deadline of January 31 for applications, to replace outgoing coach Gary LeBlanc.
It is an exciting time for the women’s programme, with the senior team recently winning a silver medal after finishing runners-up in the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Championships in Antigua — their first international competition since the Covid pandemic.
That success came under interim head coach Shaela Rae and assistant Kayla Grant, and BVA co-president Brandon Sousa is confident there is sufficient talent on island to fill the role.
“Gary has been coach for a number of years but he has two children now and is unable to continue,” Sousa said.
“We like to think there is somebody on island who we have in mind for the role. However, this is an open call for a coach and to see who is interested in taking it on, but we do have certified coaches on island that have already helped out with the women’s team.
“It’s definitely an exciting time for whoever does take it on and we look forward to the women’s team continuing to excel and build a name for Bermuda indoor volleyball across the Caribbean and hopefully internationally further beyond that.
“We have some good, young candidates that could hopefully take on the coaching role and we are hoping to get some interest from them.”
