Storm gear up for lively Dockies as netball league resumes
Debré Evans, the Storm captain, cannot wait to get back on court to face Docksiders when the winter netball league restarts at Bernard Park on Saturday (7pm).
Dockies, while not a top team in the league, have built a reputation for bringing a lot of energy whenever they are in action. This has made other teams look forward to testing their skills against them.
“I can’t wait to play against Dockies on Saturday,” Evans said. “Their positive energy is just contagious, and they are fun to play against.
“Dockies have always been a high-energy team. They seem to never get tired, so it’s important that we maintain our top performance and fitness to match their energy while sticking to our game plan.”
The last time the two teams played on October 24, Storm recorded a 57-13 victory. Since then, Evans and her team-mates have enjoyed a great run of form, winning four of their five matches to occupy second position in the six-team league behind Lindo’s Tigers.
Storm’s only loss came against Tigers, with a 30-25 triumph over champions Phoenix Heat being the highlight of their first half of the season.
“We want to boost our goal difference going into the second half of the season,” the Storm captain added.
“Since we are in contention for the league title, we know that it might be decided on goal difference, so it’s an area we really want to focus on.”
Docksiders went into the break in high spirits after defeating Hamilton Parish 32-15 for their first win of the season. Vice-captain Ruth-Ellen Pintilie, one of the impressive players for Dockies in that victory, expressed the team’s desire to build on their last encounter before the festive season.
“Dockies are really excited to get back on the court this Saturday for our first game after a refreshing Christmas break,” Pintilie said.
“Our spirits are high following our first victory this season in December, and we’re eager to build on that momentum. The upcoming match against Storm, a formidable and respected team, promises to be an exciting challenge.
“We look forward to a great game and hope to see our supporters there cheering us on, despite the cold weather.”
In the first seniors fixture of the day, it will be top versus bottom when Lindo’s Tigers face Hamilton Parish.
Jahtuere Trott, the Tigers captain, whose combination with her twin sister Jahkenya is expected to produce a lot of goals for Anthony Mouchette’s side, views the fixture as a perfect way to resume the second part of the season.
“This being our first game after the Christmas break, I think it will be a nice warm-up to get us back into gear,” she said.
“Parish have improved tremendously, being a new team in the league. I think they’re just getting better with time, but we’re looking forward to playing against them and getting back into the groove.”
