Multiple snooker world champion Mark Williams to play on island
Local snooker enthusiasts have a special treat in store as former world champion Mark Williams will play in an exhibition match on island as part of the International Snooker League Tournament in May.
Williams, a three-times world champion who is now ranked sixth in the world, will take on world-renowned coach and former senior world champion Lee Walker, with their talents being showcased at Spanish Point Boat Club in an event being hosted by the Bermuda Snooker Association.
“We are pleased to announce that three-times world professional snooker champion and world number six, Mark Williams, and former world seniors champion and world renowned coach, Lee Walker, will be flying in to play a fantastic exhibition match,” said Paul Fedden, the Bermuda Snooker Association and tournament director.
The intriguing match will be held on May 25 and will bring the curtain down on the upcoming international tournament, which will see players from Ireland, England, Canada, the United States and Bermuda compete for honours at the same venue from May 20 to 24.
“We have 30 international players flying in to take part as well as six local players in what promises to be a fantastic tournament,” Fedden said.
“We haven't seen such high-profile figures in the snooker world on the island for some 30 years or more, so it promises to be a spectacle to be remembered for generations.”
