Phoenix Heat back in netball action
Phoenix Heat captain Kianté Lightbourne is excited about the champions playing their first match of the year when they face Docksiders in the Bermuda Netball Association Winter League tomorrow.
Lindo’s Tigers, the league leaders, have played seven matches this season and Storm have played six but Heat have only had four fixtures due to postponements. This has left Erika Russell’s side fourth in the standings, nine points behind Tigers.
“We are looking forward to getting back out on the court,’’ Lightbourne said.
“Playing against Dockies is a really good opportunity for us to work on some new combinations and strengthen in some areas.
“It’s our first match of 2025. We were meant to play midweek against Hamilton Parish but the weather was against us once again.”
Ruth Ellen Pintilie, the Dockies vice-captain, is eagerly anticipating the resumption of their friendly rivalry with the champions.
“We are thrilled to finally get back into action with a game against Phoenix Heat,” she said.
“Our initial match against Storm to start the year was postponed due to weather, so we’re excited about this one.
“Phoenix Heat are not only formidable opponents with exceptional skills in all areas of the game but also the friendliest team we face.
“Despite our previous record against Phoenix Heat, facing such talented players is a fantastic opportunity, especially for our many new team members, to gain experience and gel as a team.
“We're all looking forward to a spirited match and, while we hope for the best, we're mainly excited to enjoy the game. Hopefully, we will see a strong show of support from our fans, cheering us on as we kick off 2025 with what promises to be a fun and energetic match.”
The other senior match is between Parish and St George’s, the bottom two teams in the league.
