Five of Bermuda’s top sports stars have been elected on to the Bermuda Olympic Associations’s Athletes Commission.

Triathlete Tyler Smith (28 votes), swimmer Emma Harvey (19), sailor Adriana Penruddocke (19) and hockey player Alyssa Da Silva (12) will replace Jessica Lewis, Caitlin Conyers, Tyler Butterfield and chairman Julian Fletcher, with middle-distance runner Dage Minors (27) keeping his place on the commission.

The role of the Athletes Commission is to advise and make recommendations to the BOA on all matters related to Bermudian athletes and to ensure their voice is heard within the BOA and the Olympic movement, with the newly elected athletes serving a four-year term encompassing the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

To be eligible to serve on the committee the athletes must have competed in the last eight years at the Olympics or in three CAC, Commonwealth Games, Pan Am Games or Olympic Games and/or be on the BOA elite athlete list at the start of the election period. The voting athletes come from this same pool of members.

As well as the successful athletes, high jumper Sakari Famous, volleyball’s Lisa Leblanc, sprinter Taahira Butterfield and swimmer Jack Harvey were also in contention.
