Sports minister Owen Darrell, centre, delighted to give grants to National Sports Governing bodies

Netball, cricket and athletics are among the associations to benefit from the latest round of sports investment grants.

Grants totalling $116,000 have been distributed to seven National Sports Governing Bodies to help enhance participation and performance in high-level regional competition.

The biggest grant of $45,000 was awarded to the Bermuda Cricekt Board to assist the senior men’s national team in their preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier later this year and includes travel for the T20 North Americas Cup, which takes place in April.

The Bermuda National Athletics Association has been awarded $30,000 to facilitate charter flights for athletes and officials representing Bermuda in swimming and athletics at the Carifta Games, which takes place in Trinidad & Tobago in April.

The Bermuda Netball Association has been allocated $11,650 to support their All-Star games, which celebrates the top athletes in the sport on island, while the Island Games Association has been granted $10,048 to cover entry fees for all teams competing in Orkney in July.

The Kappa Kappa Classic, Bermuda’s largest youth football tournament, has been granted $10,000 to support event operations and prizes, while CedarBridge Academy has been awarded $5,000 to assist in their participation in the Dallas Cup in April.

The Pickleball Association Bermuda has also been given $5,000 to assist with expenses related to competing in the Cape Coral Open and Fort Lauderdale Open.

sports minister Owen Darrell is thrilled that the Department of Sport and Recreation is helping to strengthen Bermuda’s sporting ecosystem by investing in athlete development and participation.

“Investing in sport is an investment in our community, our youth, and our national identity,” Darrell said.

“These grants provide vital support to our athletes and organisations, ensuring they have the resources needed to compete at their best. Sport has the power to unite, inspire, and instil discipline, and we remain committed to fostering a culture of excellence and opportunity for all.”
