High expectations for Bermuda volleyball teams
Two volleyball teams have travelled from the island to Boston to compete in the second weekend of the Nike Boston Festival.
The tournament takes place at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Centre, with the girls team, the under-18 Paradise Hitters, and the Big Wave Riders under-18 boys team, set to compete in a number of matched from Friday to Sunday.
Andrew Soares, head of the Bermuda Volleyball Association boys programme, is excited at the opportunity for the young team to compete overseas:
“The under-18 squad is the most experienced team the boys junior programme has ever sent overseas,” Soares said.
“The athletes have been part of the volleyball programme for a minimum of four years per player and as a result the expectations are extremely high.
The under-18 team did extremely well this winter in the local men’s league and are taking that experience and knowledge to Boston, with their sights set firmly on playing deep into Sunday and ranking in the top ten out of fifty teams in their division.”
The boys team will kick off the action at 10:15am Bermuda time on Friday, with the girls team beginning their campaign at 4.15pm Bermuda time.
