Lindo’s Tigers and Storm set for netball title decider

The stage is set for an intriguing contest in the Bermuda Netball Association Winter League title decider between Lindo’s Tigers and Storm on Saturday (7pm).

Going into the match at Bernard Park, leaders Tigers, who are yet to taste defeat this season, hold a two-point advantage over Storm. When the teams met in November, Tigers triumphed 36-34, and another close encounter is expected this time around.

Victory will secure the title for Anthony Mouchette’s side, but losing by a small margin can still do it for them as they can secure a bonus point, with the championship to be decided on goal difference in that case.

Securing the title would be a significant moment for three sisters in the Tigers camp. The Trott twins, Jahkenya and Jahtuere have been key in the team’s quest for goals, while younger sister Zariah Amory has shown her versatility in playing in a range of positions.

Khianda Pearman-Watson has been a rock in defence and her understanding at the back with Demiqua Daniels has been crucial for Tigers. A tough assignment is in store for the two in trying to stop Storm attackers Nabiilah Nasir and Zakiya Durham.

Without giving much away, Jahtuere declared that they were ready to deliver a thrilling display on court.

“We are coming to play and play hard,” the Tigers captain said.

“Storm want to win as badly as us. Both teams are going to bring their A game and it should be an exciting game of netball.”

Storm, whose only defeat this season came against Tigers, have shown ruthlessness in their pursuit of the title. They were 33-0 up in the first quarter against Hamilton Parish when injuries left their opponents without enough players to continue, with the match awarded to Kimale Evans’s side as a forfeit.

Last Saturday, Storm defeated Docksiders 103-10, the biggest win by any team this season, to boost their goal difference. While Nasir and Durham’s goals have largely contributed to most of the Storm’s victories, captain Debré Evans, Selah Tuzo, Inshan-Nae Smith, and Amali Powell have also been vital in the team’s title tilt.

Before Tigers and Storm battle for the title, North Village will look to end the season on a high note when they meet St George’s at 5.30pm. Village occupy third position, but they are in danger of being overtaken by dethroned champions Phoenix Heat, who still have two matches to play.
