Sorority to host family netball event this weekend
The Bermuda Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will host Delta NetFest, a family-friendly netball tournament on Saturday at Bernard Park.
The event will bring together netball teams across the island, including Dandy Stars, DC Diamonds, Storm, Phoenix, and North Village Community Club.
The all-day competition takes place from 11am to 5pm with games for players aged 11 and under, 14 and under, and 18 and under. Awards will be given to the Most Valuable Player of each age group, and the first and second-place teams will receive medals designed specifically for Delta NetFest.
“Delta NetFest was developed in alignment with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s global commitment to health and wellness through the organisation's Physical and Mental Health Programmatic Thrust, which promotes active lifestyles and holistic wellbeing within its communities,” a statement from the sorority said.
“Netball is a sport that encourages teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness, offering both mental and physical health benefits to players of all ages.”
Ultimate Imaging Ltd is the main sponsor and managing director Alaire Godfrey is excited at the partnership’s mission to encourage healthy living and community engagement.
“We have supported Delta NetFest since its inception,” Godfrey said.
“The event and the organisation’s focus on physical and mental health aligns with Ultimate Imaging and its promotion of healthy lifestyles, and so we are proud to become the main sponsor of an initiative that positively impacts the community.”
Attendees can expect a vibrant atmosphere, with music by DJ Cmdty and food vendors offering appetising options.
Shawnette Smith, president of the Bermuda Alumnae Chapter, is thrilled to be hosting the community event.
“Delta NetFest is more than just a tournament—it’s an opportunity to bring people together, foster community spirit, and highlight the importance of staying active,” she said.
“We encourage families, friends, and supporters to come out and celebrate a day of sport, wellness, and unity.”
Co-chairs of the Delta NetFest Committee, Renee Foggo Paynter and Vakita Basden, also thanked those who have helped facilitate the day.
“We express gratitude to the Bermuda Netball Association for assisting with the organisation of the tournament, ensuring that it is seamless for participants and spectators alike,” they said in a statement.
“A special thank you and acknowledgement to the main sponsor, Ultimate Imaging Ltd and to the Office of Youth Affairs, who have also sponsored the tournament since its inception. Thank you to Barritt’s for providing hydration for the teams for the day.“
