Carifta Sunday morning round-up: Bermudians make finals
Miles Outerbridge will have to wait more than 24 hours for the under-20 200 metres final after storming to victory in the second semi-final at the Carifta Games in Trinidad & Tobago.
Outerbridge knew there was no room for error with only the winner guaranteed a place in the final and he ran a fantastic bend to cross the line in 21.08sec and holds a huge chance of picking up a medal on Monday night.
There will be plenty of representation in the swimming finals at the Carifta Games on Sunday evening.
Marleigh Howes will be competing in two finals after qualifying fourth fastest in the girls 15-17 50 metres butterfly. She will also take part in the 200 metres freestyle final and heads into that final with the seventh-fastest time.
Thomas Cechini, who won the bronze medal in the boys 15-17 1,500 freestyle on Saturday night, is in contention for another podium place after qualifying in second place for the 200 freestyle final. Bermuda will be doubly represented in that event, with Connor Hupman also making it into the top eight.
Sylvia Lim will take her chance in the final of the 11-12 100 metres backstroke after qualifying seventh fastest.
Katherine Wheddon finished third in heat one of the 15-17 200 freestyle and finished twelfth overall. She also finished sixth in her heat in the 100 backstroke.
Lashee Jones finished a good fourth in the second semi-final of the under-17 girls 200 metres in a time of 25.41, with Amara Samuels doing well after a poor start to finish fifth in the third semi-final.
