Glover grabs Grand Slam spot
Lucas Glover has earned the second spot of the year in what is arguably the most difficult tournament to qualify for, the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, which is scheduled to move to Port Royal Golf Club from October 20-21.
Glover held off late charges by fellow Americans Phil Mickelson and David Duval to claim the US Open, his first major title, at the at Bethpage Black, Farmingdale, New York, yesterday.
Also invited to join Lucas and Argentina’s Angel Cabrera, who won The Masters in a thrilling suddendeath play-off in April, will be the winners of the British Open (July 16-19) at Turnberry, Ayrshire in Scotland; and the 91st PGA Championship (August 13- 16) at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.
Should a player win m o r e t h a n o n e m a j o r Championship this season, the foursome will be completed through the Major Champions Points List composed of past major Champions who compete in this year’s majors.
Past PGA Grand Slam champions include defending champion Jim Furyk, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickels o n , E r n i e E l s , Tom Lehman, Ben Crenshaw, Greg Norman, Nick Price and Ian Woosnam.
