Conley shoots 69 to claim lead
Defending champion Tim Conley fired an impressive round to take a slim one-shot lead going into the third day of the Bermuda Open at Port Royal Golf Course.
The Champions Tour player followed up his even-par first round with a two-under 69 yesterday, while overnight leader Brian McCann recorded a three-over 74 to finish one back.
Joe Horowitz is in third position by shooting an even-par 71, one shot ahead of Damon Green, the caddy of Grand Slam hopeful Zach Johnson, who is proving he is quite a competitor himself and is one over. Low amateur in the event is Quinton Sherlock Jr. who added to his fine performance of one-under par in the first round by firing a 75 taking his total to 145, three-over par for the event.
He lies in tenth position. Bermuda's Dwayne Pearman followed up his first-round par with a three-over 74, while his team-mate from the World Cup qualifiers Kim Swan also shot a three over par to leave him on a four-over 146. Round three continues today with a cut after the round.
• Two birdies on the back nine weren't enough to allow Bermuda's Michael Sims to make the cut in the second round of the Nationwide Tour's WNB Classic in Midland, Texas yesterday. Sims, who carded two bogeys on the front nine, also recorded another bogey on his last hole to finish the round at one-over par 73 with the projected cut at two-under. After bad weather had forced the abandonment of the first round on Thursday at the 7,354-yard, par-72 Midland Country Club course, the Island's top pro had started the day at one-under par, having played 14 holes. But his last four holes, completed yesterday morning, produced two bogeys, a birdie and a par to leave him at even-par heading into the second round.
