I've no chance now – Immelman
A weary Trevor Immelman admitted he was playing for pride after enduring a miserable opening round of the PGA Grand Slam which saw him shoot a disappointing six-over par.
The South African suffered a torrid back nine at Mid Ocean Club yesterday, hitting double bogeys at hole 11 and 16, leaving him trailing by what seems an insurmountable eight-shot deficit.
"I guess there's not too much to say," Immelman said.
"I made a few squiggly shots and that's what cost me. I didn't make any putts and it made for a long day. I've got no chance now, I'm just being honest. The other guys are playing well and I've just got to go out there and try and have a better round tomorrow."
He added: "It's one of those course that either goes your way or it doesn't. It's obviously a tricky course and some of the pin placements were pretty tough - there were some unexpected ones.
"I didn't play very well and obviously Jim (Furyk) and Paddy (Harrington) played pretty damn good to shoot those two-unders.
"When I made a mistake my putter didn't clean it up for me – that was a little disappointing."
