Roy to defend Stroke Play title

Scott Roy (pictured) will defend his title when the Bermuda Professional Golf Association’s Stroke Play Championship begins today at Tuckers Point Golf Club.The 54-hole Championship will feature most of the Island’s golf pros with Roy coming up against a stronger field than a year ago.Veteran Dwayne Pearman will be among the favourites, having enjoyed wins on the Jack Daniels Tour this year and is coming off a 66 last week which included nine birdies.Daniel Augustus will be looking to stamp his mark on Bermuda golf before he sets off on loftier goals overseas while Eric West will be hoping to gain some momentum before he heads off to the Tour de la Americas and Canadian tour.Twilton Smith, leader of the Order of Merit this year, is likely to be among the contenders after showing good form this year with some steady play. Another looking for the title will be Anthony Mocklow, who won the Jack Daniels Tour’s first major this year.n Entries for the redesigned Bermuda Open Championships are now being accepted. For the first time, the event, at Port Royal, has been entwined with the Senior Stroke Play Championships and the Amateur Stroke Play Championships. Competition begins on June 16 with a practice round the day before.Entries close on Friday, June 10.
