Sims tastes victory on Peach State tour
After struggling on the Nationwide Tour for the past 18 months, Michael Sims has dropped down to a developmental tour in Georgia in order to find his game and make some money. The Bermuda professional is playing on the Peach State Professional Golf Tour and has already won more money than he did during the whole of last year on the main tour.Sims took first place and $15,000 at The Orchard Open this week, beating Jay McLuen in a one hole play-off after coming from four shots back in the final round to tie McLuen at 14-under par. While McLuen could only make par at the par-five 18, despite hitting the green in two, Sims got down for birdie following a tricky approach shot from the right hand rough. The PSPGT is based in the Atlanta area, and might give Sims a good chance to increase his earnings over last year. The tour has 16, 36-hole tournaments, in which the winner walks away with $10,000. There are eight, three-day tournaments with $15,000 available for the winner, and a 72-hole Tour Championship with a $20,000 top prize.Sims’ next chance to play will be at the Jennings Mill Country Club event, in Bogart, Georgia, on Monday and Tuesday next week. However, the next Nationwide Tour event also takes place next week, with the tour stopping in North and South Carolina to play the BMW Charity Pro-Am, which will be played over three different courses in the Spartanburg, Mill Creek area of the two states.
