80-year-old Madeiros fires an even par 70
Once one of Bermuda’s most successful amateur golfers, JJ Madeiros, turned back the clock when he fired a round 10 shots below his age, tying for first place in this week’s Jack Daniels Tour event at Belmont Hills GC.A Belmont member, 80-year-old Madeiros carded an even par 70 in a round which included just two bogeys, offset by two birdies.His performance left him in a tie for first place with Port Royal pro Dwayne Pearman.Pearman overcame an early triple bogey on the par four fifth when he roared back with five five birdies.Third was Darriek Douglas with a 73 while Anthony Mocklow placed fourth with a 74 after taking a triple bogey on the 15th.Next week’s tournament will be the Tour’s third ‘major’ of the year at Mid Ocean Golf Club with $2,250 up for grabs.
