Mansell and Dillas fight back to win Four Ball title
Nick Mansell and Jarryd Dillas staged a remarkable comeback on the final day to win the men’s Bermuda Four Ball Championship title in spectacular fashion at Port Royal yesterday.The pair trailed overnight leaders David Alderdice and Richard Neame by four shots going into the final round of the 36-hole tournament but hit form when it mattered most to prevail in the end by as many strokes.Mansell and Dillas stepped up their charge on the back nine where they birdied 10, 15 and 17 to clinch the title with a four-under-par 138.It was the second straight year that Mansell had been on the winning team in this event that was reduced from 54 to 36 holes after the first day fell prey to inclement weather, while Dillas has also savoured the sweet taste of victory before with other partners.Winning the women’s title was the team of Ebonie Burgess and Elizabeth Parsons, also by a four shot margin, over nearest rivals Kathy Lloyd -Hines and Gladys Chambazz.Burgess and Parsons, who represented Bermuda earlier this year at the Island Games in the Isle of Wight, finished the tournament at 20-over-par 162.Claiming the men’s net division title were overseas golfers Brian Farmer and Kyle Viehl who finished at seven-under-par 135. The team of Joan Wood-Cassidy and Carla Mann O’Callaghan won the women’s net division with a two-over-par 144.
