Bermuda foursome show promise in Florida
Promising golfers Dwayne Pearman Jr, Justin Dixon-Watts, Matthew Smith and Cory DeSilva did the Island proud at last weekend’s Top 50 Junior Golf Tour Tournament at Deltona Club in Florida.Pearman, Smith and Watts occupied three of the top four places on the leaderboard in the boys 16-18 age group while DeSilva also held his own in the boys 12-15 division during the 36-hole event held at the 6,607 -yard, par 72 Deltona Club.Pearman finished second in the boys 16-18 age group after carding a two-day total of 16 -over-par 160 to finish eight-shots adrift of winner Evan Gfeller.Finishing one shot behind Pearman in third was Smith who carded a 25 -over-par 169 followed by Watts who placed fourth after carding a 26-over-par 170.Not to be outshone by his senior compatriots, DeSilva finished an equally impressive third in the boys 12-15 division after carding a 19-over-par 175.Accompanying the golf quartet, who were due to arrive home yesterday, was coach and chaperon Eardley Jones.Teenagers Pearman, Smith, Watts and DeSilva received the opportunity to broaden their horizons in Florida last week as reward for their outstanding performances during last year’s Ross Blackie Talbot Summer Tour.
