Sims surges into top five

Michael Sims continued his rich vein of form in the final round of the e-Golf Tour’s River Landing Open in Wallace, North Carolina on Saturday.A week after a second place at the tour’s Southern Open, the 33-year-old pro made a surge over the last 18 holes to soar up the leaderboard, posting a five-under-par 67 and finishing in a tie for fifth.It earned him $4,700, adding to the $14,000 he collected a week ago.Sims recorded an historic 59 in the second round of the Southern Open and has never looked back.His 11-under-par total of 277 completed a week in which he never recorded a round over par.He started with a two-under 70, followed with an even-par 72 and closed with 68 and 67.His final round contained three birdies and an eagle.That completed a 37-hole streak during which he didn’t make a single bogey.Victory on Saturday went to American Chesson Hadley who finished with a 17-under-par 271, four shots clear of second-placed David Robinson.Sims lost his Nationwide Tour card last year but has been making his mark on the mini-tour.He’s now seventh on the money list with $46,624 from 16 eventsNo event is scheduled on the e-Golf Tour this week. The next tournament, the Championship at Woodside Plantation in Aiken, South Carolina, will begin on August 4.
