Champions return for Four-Ball

Defending men’s and women’s champions Bill Pitt and Nick Mansell and Ann Symonds and Louise Payne will put their titles on the line when the annual Bermuda Four-Ball Amateur Golf Championships are held at Port Royal from November 16-18.Pitt and Mansell won last year’s event for a seventh time when they carded a 201 score in the 72-hole event to win by one shot over David Alderdice and Matt Gorrell. The men’s net division was won by Graham Strange and Derek Holland while Symonds and Payne took the women’s 54-hole gross title and Cindy Hardart and Carol Eastham the net division.Entries close on November 9 and the fee is $600 per team with Port Royal members paying $150 each.Meanwhile, entries are still being received for the annual Gosling’s Invitational which is scheduled for November 26-29, with a four-ball match on Sunday, November 25.Canadian Joe Horowitz was the winner in last year’s $60,000 event, his second title in three years.Last year saw a record 52 professionals compete in the tournament which is one of the most popular on the local calendar. The deadline for entries is November 13 and the entry fees are $675 for pros and $550 for amateurs.
