Golfers to raise cash for Haiti health clinic
A golf tournament scheduled for Saturday, September 28, will raise funds to support the Haiti Village Health clinic in northern Haiti.The fundraising target is $15,000 as teams of four will compete, each player paying a $150 entry feeThe tournament will feature three sponsorship levels — the platinum package for $1500, the gold package for $1000 and silver package for $500.The event will be played under the Captain’s Choice format.Professionals and amateurs will take part with prizes awarded for the longest drive and closest to the pin for both ladies and men.Prizes include PGA Grand Slam tickets and rounds of golf at Port Royal.All proceeds from the inaugural event at Royal Port will go towards providing medical care in the remote Bas Limbe region of the country, including maternal healthcare, paediatric imminizations, nutritional support for severely malnourished children and water and sanitation infrastructure.The clinic provides medical care to 25,000 people who otherwise would have extremely limited access to healthcare.Along with medical care, Haiti Village Health supports public health initiatives designed to prevent disease through the construction of latrines and deepwater wells for access to potable water.The area is affected by cholera and malaria due to insufficient sanitation infrastructure.Health clinic workers said “Even small sums of money can mean the difference between life and death for a community facing such challenges.”
