Haddrell and Nash claim individual honours

Mark Phillips, Chris Brough, Will Haddrell and Jarryd Dillas captured the Bermuda Golf Association Team Medal Championship men's team title at Belmont Hills on Sunday

Bermuda Golf Association foursome Jarryd Dillas, Will Haddrell, Chris Brough and Mark Phillips captured the men’s team title during the association’s 2013 Team Medal Championships at Riddell’s Bay Golf Club on Sunday.The team, consisting of three players with a plus handicap, shot a combined best three gross score of 224.The ladies’ team title went to Mid Ocean Ladies (Tracy Nash, Katrin Burnie, Valerie Nearon and Susan Vallis) who had a combined gross score of 259.Port Royal Juniors (Alex Mason, Benjamin Barnett, Lewis Daley and Brady Cordeiro) won the men’s net division with a combined score of 205 while the Port Royal Ladies (Lesley Balcombe, Teresa Taguchi, Elizabeth Parsons and Maggie McCorkell) won the women’s net division after returning a combined score of 233.Will Haddrell (72) and Tracy Nash (82) were the individual gross winners among the men’s and ladies’ divisions.Sunday’s event, which was delayed nearly two hours due to a passing thunderstorm, saw as many as ten teams do battle for team and individual gross and net prizes.Teams of four players representing various golf clubs and associations competed in the stroke play event with the best three scores counting towards the team total.*The 2013-14 Bermuda Junior Golf Association season will kick off this weekend at Turtle Hill Golf Club.Last weekend saw the association stage information sessions for all returning and interested players as well as the prize presentation at Port Royal Golf Club for the 2012-13 Monthly Medal series that concluded at the same venue last June.History was made when Corey DeSilva and Arriek Douglas were crowned joint winners in the Boys Division (Blue Tees) after finishing the nine month series tied with 50 points. It is the first time there has been a tie for the top spot.Elizabeth Parsons won the Girls Division after also finishing the series with 50 points.Remaining divisional winners among the boys were Brady Cordeiro (White Tees) and Joe Waters (Red Tees) while Jordan Saunders walked away from the prize ceremony with the Most Improved Junior Golfer of the Year Award.
