Sam Wehmeyer successfully defended his Aon Benfield Fecchio Cup title with a solid final round of 82 on Saturday at Port Royal Golf Club, winning the championship by 11 shots after a three-round total of 261.

Wehmeyer’s margin of victory was no doubt helped by the disqualification of rival Cory DeSilva for signing an incorrect card at the end of the first round on Thursday. But he had to contend with atrocious conditions that played havoc with scorecards in the second round before sauntering towards an inevitable victory in the final 18 holes on a more amenable Saturday.

Arriek Douglas put together his best round of the week, an 81, to take second place on 272, two strokes clear of newcomer Mykal Donkin, who finished with an 87.

The 13-15 division, which was the most closely contested of the three, was decided on the final nine holes between Alex Mason, who led after the second round, and Dakota Lamb. Mason stood on the 15th tee two shots ahead only to falter coming in, with Lamb making up four shots over the final four holes to take the title with an 87, for 262 overall.

This was Lamb’s second Bermuda Junior Golf Association major in a row after winning the HSBC BJGA International Classic last summer. Kheary Swan put together a solid round of 84 to get himself into third place and also to take the net title. The back nine was the undoing of Mikus Ming, the first-round leader, who finished in fourth place after threatening the front-runner with a solid front nine.

In the Open Red Division, Kenny Leseur was pushed a bit more than he was hoping for by Joe Watson before hanging on for victory. Leseur had his low round of the week, a 95, despite a rough finish on the final two holes. Watson’s 88 was the round of the day but it was good enough only to secure a runner-up finish on 302, six strokes behind Leseur. Tyler Emery was third and Luke Watson fourth.

Alex Withers-Clarke broke into a big smile as he signed his card for a 99, his first score below three figures, to finish fifth. John Dragonetti rounded out the division with a round of 127 on the final day.
