Will Haddrell birdied the second hole in a sudden-death play-off to win the Bermuda Stroke Play Championships at Port Royal Golf Course on Sunday.

Extra holes were needed to decide the winner after Haddrell and Jarryd Dillas finished the 54-hole amateur championship tied at three-over-par 216.

Both players had to return to the tee after making pars on the first hole in the sudden death play-off at the par four, 18th green before Haddrell got up and down for birdie the second time around to finally settle matters in dramatic fashion.

Haddrell’s final round score of one over par 72 was the joint lowest of the round.

Also carding a final round one over par 72 was Walker Campbell who finished third with a four over par 217 that left him a shot shy of a place in the play-off.

Dillas and Haddrell both shot the lowest round of the tournament of one under par 70 during Saturday’s second round.

In stark contrast to the battle for the open men’s title, Elizabeth Parsons won the ladies title by a comfortable 12-shot margin. It was Parsons’s second championship title in three years.

Parsons. who attends Wagner College in Staten Island, New York, on a golf scholarship, finished at 19 over par 232 with Katrin Burnie second at 31 over par 244 and Ebonie Cox a further shot back in third at 32 over par 245.

Parsons’s four over par 75 during the opening round was the lowest round among the ladies division.

Hav Trott won the senior men’s title by six shots over Christopher Phillips.

Trott finished at 13-over par 226, with his best showing arriving in the second round when he carded a two over 73.

Phillips finished at 19 over par 232 with Nick Fernandez rounding out the top three at 22 over par 235.

Burnie won the senior ladies title to go along with her second placed showing in the overall ladies field.
