Qualifying spots up for grabs

In the hunt: Michael Sims

Eighteen golfers will begin their bid to claim one of the three qualifying spots for the upcoming Bermuda Championships when they take part in two rounds of qualifying today and tomorrow at Port Royal.

The Bermuda Golf Association and the Bermuda Professional Golfers Association will host the event starting at 10.10am each day.

Professionals Daniel Augustus, Michael Sims and Camiko Smith will go out in the first threesome with the following groups of three leaving the clubhouse at ten minute intervals.

Kenny Leseur, a student in Florida and the youngest in the field at age 15, will be in the third group with Chaka DeSilva and Jarry Dillas.

“We have completed our final course preparations for the local qualifier,” said Gary Venning, tournament director and head rules official for the local Qualifier. “The course is in great shape, and we are expecting some competitive scores.”

The public is invited to come out and watch the competition. Admission is free.
