Augustus added to Bermuda Championship field
Persistence has paid off for Daniel Augustus who has been added to the field that will tee off in the inaugural Bermuda Championship at Port Royal Golf Course this week.
The local professional comes in as the first alternate from the local qualifier held at Port Royal this month.
“It’s an honour to be in this event and I am overjoyed this has happened,” said Augustus, who finished three shots shy of securing automatic qualification.
“I’m glad I never gave up during that qualifier, though I was x-amount of strokes behind. I’m glad that I took every shot serious, I didn’t give up.
“Every shot counts and this literally proved it for me that even when you are not playing at your best, still fight. Still try and get the ball in the hole as quick as possible to, to think things out and think things straight and eventually everything will fall into place.”
Augustus is one of five local players that will compete in the PGA Tour event, which also includes fellow professionals Dwayne Pearman, who was granted a sponsor’s exemption, and Michael Sims, and amateurs Jarryd Dillas and Kenny Leseur.
They will now be among a field boasting 49 PGA Tour champions with a combined 130 victories, including former Masters and PGA Championship winners Mike Weir and Davis Love III.
“We are very proud and excited to have such a strong field for the inaugural Bermuda Championship,” Sean Sovacool, the tournament director, said.
“The field is full of talented young players mixed with PGA Tour veterans and local competitors. We feel the Bermuda Championship will be a tremendous event for the fans and Bermuda.”
The tournament will be held from October 31 to November 3.
