Brent Giannone and Liz Carpio seal mixed foursomes title joy
Brent Giannone and Liz Carpio came from behind to win the Bermuda Mixed Foursomes Championship at Turtle Hill Golf Course yesterday.
The pair carded a one-over, 109 to finish the 36-hole event two shots clear of nearest rivals Oliver Betschart and Kathy Lloyd-Hines.
Roger Brangman and Ann Symonds finished a further shot back at four-over, 112 to round off the podium respectively.
Betschart and Lloyd-Hines held a one-shot advantage at the top of the leaderboard at the halfway stage of the tournament that consisted of 18 holes of Four-Ball (partner best ball) and 18 holes of modified Pinehurst (alternating shot).
Damian Palanyandi, the defending champion, and partner Katyna Rabain were thick in the hunt, tied for second through the first 18 holes.
However, Palanyandi, who will make his debut in the Butterfield Bermuda Championships at Port Royal Golf Course this week, had to settle for fourth after Rabain withdrew and was replaced at the last minute.
Craig Christensen and Gillian Campbell won the net division.
Saturday’s opening round was contested in wet and windy conditions. However, yesterday’s weather conditions were more favourable, resulting in good competitive scoring.
