Daniel Augustus celebrates another Moonlight title
Daniel Augustus continued his solid form of late after finishing tied for first competing in a Moonlight Golf Tour event at the Eagle Dunes Golf Club in Sorrento, Florida, on Thursday.
The Bermudian professional shot a blistering six-under 66, that included six birdies, to earn a share of honours along with Ted Smith and Andrew Arft, of the United States, after tournament officials were unable to stage a play-off to determine an outright winner.
“It was a busy day on the course so we couldn’t go back out and do a play-off or anything and had to split the pot,” Augustus told The Royal Gazette.
The 34-year-old was left to rue several missed birdie attempts at the par-72 layout.
“I had every opportunity to win that outright,” Augustus added. “There were avoidable mistakes, unforced errors.
“But I’m happy I shot six under after starting off with a bogey on a par five and happy with my progress.
“Even though I’m not making the most of my rounds I’m still playing under par golf and I am so grateful and blessed for the progress that I’m making.”
Joshua Seale, of Uganda, and American Patrick Sheehan finished joint fourth, a shot adrift of the leaders at five under.
Bryan Moore and Kyle Wilshire, both of the United States, finished tied for sixth at four under respectively.
Augustus went into the event with momentum having made a triumphant debut competing on the IGTA Tour in Orlando last month.
He shot a nine-under 141 to win the CGate Classic at ChampionsGate Golf Club to edge nearest rival Felix Rivera by one shot and earn the $6,000 winner’s purse, his biggest payday as a professional.
“I’m really blessed to be able to play the game that I love for a living,” Augustus said. “I’ve won four times now in the span of two months, so I’m proud of myself and also grateful.”
