Daniel Augustus secures another win on Moonlight Tour
Daniel Augustus continued his dominant form on the Moonlight Golf Tour in Orlando, Florida on Thursday.
The Bermudian professional carded a bogey free six-under 66 to win the 18-hole event at the Black Bear Golf Club by one shot over Joey Stills, of the United States. Still’s compatriot Paul Wackerly rounded off the top three a farther shot back.
The victory was the sixth of the year and ninth overall on the Moonlight Golf Tour for Augustus, who has come on in leaps and bounds competing overseas.
Even though he was not thrilled with his hitting, Augustus was grateful for the win.
“Obviously happy with the result,” Augustus told The Royal Gazette. “I didn’t really play that great, I just managed my round well and that was the key to me shooting the score that I did.
“I didn’t really hit it solid, I just got the ball around the golf course in a good manner. It wasn’t like a ball striking masterpiece or putting masterpiece either.
“I left myself with the right shots whenever I missed it and if I missed a green I got up and down. If I hit a poor tee shot I hit a great recovery shot.
“I just managed my round extremely well and that is the last part of the game that I have been working on, which is why I have become more consistent shooting under par.”
Augustus carded six birdies, including the last three holes coming in, on the way to his second straight win at the par-72 layout inside of a month.
While pleased with the progress he has made lately, the 34-year-old pointed out that there’s room for improvement.
“Obviously I’m happy with the direction that my game is going and everything, but I still have some work to do,” Augustus added. “I still have some things I need to work on with my game and sticking to the process.
“The game overall is getting better and I just have to continue doing my thing.”
