Nick Jones saved his best for last to cap his debut at the Trinidad & Tobago Open on a solid note yesterday.

The Bermudian shot an even-par 72 during the final round at St Andrews Golf Club in Moka, Maravalto, to finish fifth overall at 22-over 310.

“I had a good round today finally,” Jones told The Royal Gazette.

“I just wanted to prove to myself that I can shoot well. I shot even par and had an eagle and two birdies.

“I had two double bogeys as well, so if I would have cut those out it would have been really good.

“I played really well today and it just took my five rounds to get used to the conditions I think. But next year I will come back and do better.”

Also impressing was Dwayne Pearman, who finished tied for seventh two shots back of compatriot Jones at 312.

Pearman was five over for the round with three holes to play but made successive bogeys and a triple bogey to sign off with an 82.

Bermuda’s contingent also included Zane DeSilva, who finished sixteenth among the field of 20 in the super senior division, whose 54-hole event concluded the day before.

DeSilva accompanied Pearman and Jones who were paired together in the final round of the 72-hole championship.

“All in all I think they made a good showing for Bermuda,” DeSilva said.

“They were mentioned a lot throughout the course of the week and they both done fairly well.”

Defending champion Benjamin Martins, of Trinidad, topped the overall leaderboard to successfully retain his title.
