Damian Palanyandi secures third victory on Moon Gate Tour
Damian Palanyandi has become the first back-to-back winner on the Moon Gate Tour at Ocean View Golf Course.
The top amateur carded an even-par 70 to win the fourth round of the inaugural championship by two shots at the Devonshire layout last Friday.
It was a second successive win and third overall for Palanyandi, who appears to have taken a particular liking to the Tour.
“I played pretty conservative; only hitting driver twice the entire round and heavily relied on my wedge game,” he told The Royal Gazette.
Palanyandi’s round included three birdies and as many bogeys.
He was one under through 15 until dropping a shot on the par-three 18th.
“I left a few shots out there but that’s golf,” he added. “Just happy to have gotten the job done and always enjoy playing at Ocean View.
“Brian Morris, OJ [Pitcher] and the agronomy crew did a great job in setting up the course. Greens were firm, rolling and we’re particularly fast putting from above the hole, which I’m sure caught a few guys off guard.”
Professional Cory DeSilva finished second at two over and amateur Jarryd Dillas in third a further shot back.
Nick Jones, who also carded a three-over 73, and fellow professional and Tour co-founder Andrew Trott-Francis (75), rounded off the top five among the field of 21 players.
Palanyandi has produced a string of good displays since making his PGA Tour debut at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship at Port Royal last October.
He finished joint winner with Jones at the Moon Gate Tour season opener at Port Royal in February, which was followed by a maiden outright win at the same venue last month.
Amateur Will Haddrell is the remaining winner on the Tour so far.
A total of seven 18-hole medal events are scheduled to be held, with the inaugural season to conclude in September with a 36-hole Tour Championship.
