Brian Morris’s son revealed his father's courageous battle with brain cancer continued until the very end as he fought to be among loved ones in the final moments of his life.

Morris died in the company of his family and close friends on Sunday upon arrival at Agape House after being flown back home by Medevac from Orlando, Florida.

“He fought so hard to get back home to see his close loved ones and he passed away peacefully in no pain,” said Morris’s eldest son, Brian Jr.

The 55-year-old father of five had travelled to Florida with wife Laurie to celebrate their wedding anniversary when his condition took a turn for the worse.

“It was crazy how quick it happened,” Brian Jr added. “He went out there to celebrate him and his wife’s anniversary and then two, three days into the vacation he wasn’t feeling good, so Laurie took him to the hospital and they found more bleeding on the brain.

“From that point he was in a stable state and the main priority for him was to get back to Bermuda because he didn’t want to die in Florida away from all his friends and loved ones.

“So through the grace of God we got him home yesterday, got him to Agape House and got him settled in. The few people that got to see him were close ones and we got to say our goodbyes and he was at peace.”

Brian Jr is grateful to have had one last opportunity to see his father alive.

“Just for me to have those few moments with him before he passed away, I couldn’t ask for more,” he said. “He is at peace and there was so much closure for me.

“I am so glad they brought him back to Bermuda because it was big. It was should they leave him in Florida to pass and then ship him back? But he wanted to get back and he fought to the very end.”

Morris’s passing brought an end to a courageous three-year battle with cancer that touched the hearts of many, both on island and abroad.

“He had three years of fighting cancer and ups and downs and it was a long fight, but he is at peace now,” added Brian Jr, who is following in his late father’s footsteps as he is also an active golfer.

“I was brought up at Ocean View and when he worked at Belmont Hills and Riddell’s Bay, he got me a job there,” he said. “Even when he came to Ocean View, I worked up here with him so I spent a lot of time on the golf course with my dad. I am so grateful I got to see him yesterday. That was a big part for me.”

Plans are now being made for Brian Morris’s funeral service to be held at Ocean View on Saturday.
