Bermuda to host Atlantic International Junior Championship reunion
Belmont Hills and Port Royal will provide the backdrop for a reunion tournament bringing together players who competed in the former Atlantic International Junior Championship.
The Atlantic International Alumni Reunion Bermuda 2023 tournament will be held from July 10 to 13 and will feature golfers from North America, the United Kingdom, Caribbean and Bermuda.
“The time has finally come for that much talked about reunion,” read a press release on the upcoming event.
“The Atlantic International Junior Championship was first played in 1977 and grew in popularity throughout the 80s and into the 90s. Every summer, junior golfers from the USA, Canada, the UK and Bahamas would arrive in Bermuda for a fantastic week of golf and fun.
“The hospitality of the Bermudian residents was amazing as they opened their homes to numerous juniors.
“Many great friendships were formed during those tournaments, but unfortunately over the years the AIJC became but a memory.
“A few of us are still great friends and have decided that the time has come to have a reunion event for the Atlantic International Alumni
“We have formed an organizing committee of Geoff Blee, Simon Roberts, Anthony Mocklow, Nick Mansell, Bill Reynolds and Phil Hidden, and plans are under way to once again meet in Bermuda in 2023.
“We are busy trying to reach out to as many alumni as possible and we ask you to spread the word to anyone who you are still in contact with from those days.
“We have a Facebook group where alumni are sharing photos and memories. So far we have 84 members in this group.”
The first and last rounds of the 54-hole tournament will be held at Belmont Hills Golf Club on July 11 and 13, with the second round taking place at Port Royal Golf Course July 12.
Alumni will get the first opportunity to reconnect with old friends during a round of golf at Turtle Hill Golf Club on July 10.
A fun-filled week of golf and various other social activities will then culminate with a closing dinner at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club after the final round on July 13.
Registration for the upcoming tournament is now open.
