Scott Roy continues superb season with fourth title
Scott Roy continued his sensational season after capturing a fourth title of the year.
The professional finished in a three-way tie for first with Chris Smith and Chaka DeSilva competing at this week’s Bermuda Professional Golfers Association Monthly Medal at Tucker’s Point Golf Course.
After all was said and done on the course, Roy cited the support of others as the key behind his success of late.
“I would like to thank my Turtle Hill golf family and Fairmont Southampton family for their continued support and cheering they have shown me,” he told The Royal Gazette. “It really is a key motivator for me.
Roy carded five birdies and six bogeys during a round of one-over 71 that earned him a share of the title and bragging rights with Smith and DeSilva.
“The course was in good condition considering the weather the island has had,” he added. “It was fun and a treat to get out and play.”
Smith played a solid back nine where he carded three birdies coming in, while an equally steady DeSilva made eagle at No 7 and birdie at No 15.
“It was a good turnout for local professionals to get some playing time,” Roy said.
“Work is busy. Courses are gearing up for the summer season and players are focusing on the Butterfield Bermuda Championship qualifier.”
Roy leads the BPGA Order of Merit with Arriek Douglas and DeSilva clinging to second and third.
The Turtle Hill Golf Club director of golf has been a model of consistency lately having already captured three victories on the Moongate Tour Championship.
Roy started the year off with a bang after finishing tied for first with amateur Jevon Roberts in January’s season opener.
The 42-year-old’s season then gained more momentum with additional victories at Port Royal in March and Belmont Hills Golf Club last month solidifying his lead in the Moongate Tour Championship Order of Merit.
