Charity event empowers Bermuda's youth through golf
Bermuda's golf community came together at Port Royal Golf Course, for a charity event aimed at actively involving the island's youth in the sport.
Sponsored by the Bermuda Golf Foundation, QBE Foundation, and supported by local logistics partner Mailboxes, Butterfield Vallis, and Burrows Lightbourne, the charity event aims to create equal access to golf and provide a platform for the personal and professional growth of young individuals.
The event proved a resounding success, helping to lay the foundation for the continued empowerment of Bermuda's youth through equal access to the sport with the help of the foundation.
“It was a chance to gather companies and the golf community to help give back to community members,” said James Godwin, a dedicated board member of the Bermuda Golf Foundation and a passionate contributor to the QBE Foundation.
“Money raised will enable greater reach for the Junior Golf Programme, public schools, and those who may not have exposure to the sport.
“The idea is to create equal access to golf; everyone deserves the opportunity to try this lovely sport.”
Craig Brown, president of the Bermuda Golf Foundation, expressed his enthusiasm for the event's success and the foundation's future projects.
“The Foundation is excited with the results of the event and is looking forward to future projects coming to fruition given recent momentum,” he said. “A special thank you to the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Recreation and all of Bermuda's stakeholders for helping to grow golf in our community."
Bricen Hakeman, CEO of Mailboxes, emphasised the company's commitment to reinvesting in the local community.
“When the Bermuda Golf Foundation requested the support of Mailboxes, there was absolutely no hesitation from our organisation to support the event with their logistical needs,” he said.
“We are Bermuda's express logistics provider and, much different than our international competitors, are absolutely committed to reinvesting in our local community.
“Mailboxes’ business is 95 per cent Bermudian, and we are fully invested in supporting the success of our community's youth while developing the next generation of leaders.”
Stephen Lambert, general manager of Port Royal, and Arjun Kaushal, general manager of Bella Vista, and their teams were also recognised for their invaluable role in hosting the foundation's event for the day.
Plans are already under way for next year's event, and the organisers eagerly anticipate greater numbers of participants and supporters.
