Vanessa Chychrun and Will Haddrell win Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play titles
The overnight leaders at the Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play Championship maintained their leads to walk away with the titles on Sunday.
Will Haddrell took the men’s championship after finishing as the only golfer under par for the tournament. Haddrell’s final round of 73 was enough to see off the persistent challenge of Jarryd Dillas in the final round to win by three shots.
Dillas finished at two over, with teenager Oliver Betschart claiming third with his final round of 73 enough to finish five shots behind Haddrell. Last year’s champion Adam Perry finished fifth
Vanessa Chychrun negotiated some final-round nerves to clinch the women’s championship. Chychrun hit a 79, by some margin her worst round of the tournament, to finish but she had an eight-shot lead over last year’s champion Ebonie Cox heading into the closing day.
Cox managed to close the gap to five shots after shooting 76 in her last 18 holes to finish runner-up with Kim Botelho finishing third.
Rod Forrest went into the final round with a four-shot lead over Hav Trott and managed to extend it throughout the day to become champion by eight shots. Forrest’s final score of six over would have been good enough to tie for fifth in the men’s championship.
Tracy Burgess, who finished fourth in the women’s championship, picked up the senior women’s crown. She beat Ann Symonds by an impressive ten shots with Linda Down finishing third
