Scott Roy hopes to get his title attempt back on track when the Moongate Tour Championship resumes at Port Royal Golf Course on Friday.

The professional struggled in the previous 18-hole event at the Southampton course, where he finished tied for tenth among a field of 21, but he is confident he can bounce back at the earliest opportunity.

“I am looking forward to it. I feel like my game is still in a good place and it feels like forever ago that I felt really comfortable,” Roy told The Royal Gazette.

“I haven’t honestly put the time and effort into practice as I would like, but I am still hitting the ball well and hoping everything plays in my favour.”

The Turtle Hill Golf Club director of golf tops the order of merit and is gunning for a fourth win of the year in the championship.

“I am going in comfortable and knowing I have a good lead overall, but I still want to perform and play to the best of my ability,” Roy stressed.

The 42-year-old has his work cut out in a formidable field that also features fellow professionals Nick Jones, Dwayne Pearman and Chaka DeSilva along with top amateurs Damian Palanyandi, Junior Robinson and Eric West.

West is heading in with momentum after winning the previous event by a comfortable five shots to become only the third winner this season alongside fellow amateur Jevon Roberts and Roy.

Roy finished tied for first with Roberts in January’s Moongate Tour season opener at Port Royal, which the former followed up with additional wins at the same course and Belmont Hills Golf Club.

Roberts is among the notable absentees in the field along with inaugural Moongate Tour Championship winner Camiko Smith and OJ Pitcher.

Roberts and Smith are both off island while Pitcher has been ruled out after fracturing a rib playing for St David’s against holders Bailey’s Bay in the first round of the Eastern Counties at Sea Breeze Oval last weekend.
