Mixed foursomes champions crowned at Turtle Hill
Just two days after Hurricane Lee swept past the island, Turtle Hill Golf Course provided a stunning backdrop for the Bermuda Golf Association Mixed Foursome Championships
A total of 16 teams took part in the 36-hole event spread over two days with mixed teams of two playing at 85 percent in four-ball (partner best ball) format in round one on Saturday and 50 percent combined handicap in a modified Pinehurst (alternate shot) format in round two on Sunday.
The scores from round one and round two were tabulated for overall Gross and Net standings respectively, with Katrin Burnie and Eric West crowned overall gross champions by three strokes over the formidable team of Ebonie Cox, who recently won a gold medal at the Island Games, and Jarryd Dillas. The team of Linda Down and James Godwin finished a stroke further back to round out the top three.
In the Net division, Melinda Frith and Yves Chambaz held on to their one-shot overnight lead to hold off the challenge of Ann Mitchell and Gary Venning. Elaine Parker-Frost and Christopher Morris finished a couple of strokes further behind.
Other prize winners included Ann Symonds, who dinished closest to the Pin on the 13th hole in round one with Luis Gerardo achieving the same on the sixth. Rebecca Solayao finished nearest to the flag on six in round two, with Steve Hickmott peppering the pin on hole 13. James Godwin finished closest to the pin in the open contest on hole No. 1, which was held over both days.
The Bermuda Golf Association’s next scheduled event is the Bermuda Four Ball Championship, which is scheduled for Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1, at Port Royal Golf Course.
