Oliver Betschart full of confidence heading into final Moongate Tour medal event
Oliver Betschart hopes to continue his good form when he tees off in the final medal event on this year’s Moongate Tour on Friday.
The 15-year-old heads into the 18-hole event at Port Royal Golf Course with his confidence soaring after claiming the amateur title and finishing tied for second in the Johnnie Walker Classic at Ocean View Golf Course last month.
“I am looking forward to the Moongate Tour,” an enthusiastic Betschart told The Royal Gazette.
“It will be good preparation for the upcoming Local Qualifier (Butterfield Bermuda Championship).”
The promising amateur has already savoured success this season after becoming the youngest player to win on the Moongate Tour when capturing a maiden title at Port Royal in April.
“I wasn’t able to play many events in Bermuda this year but I had some good results when I did play,” Betschart said.
The teenager has already qualified for the Moongate Tour Championship, with a date yet to be announced fot that tournament which features the top 18 players and ties in the Order of Merit.
Professional Scott Roy, a three-times winner on this year’s Moongate Tour, has already clinched the Order of Merit with a medal event to spare and is also among the field.
Also competing is reigning Tour champion Camiko Smith and fellow professional Dwayne Pearman, who is on an impressive hat -trick after winning the previous medal event and Johnnie Walker Classic in his last two tournament appearances.
Another player expected to be in the hunt is professional Nick Jones, who finished tied for second with Betschart at last month’s Johnnie Walker Classic, but missing from the field are professional and Tour co-founder Chaka DeSilva and top amateurs Jevon Roberts, Jarryd Dillas and Damian Palanyandi.
