Eric West misses Abaco Classic cut in Bahamas
Eric West has described competing at The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic as a “great experience” despite bowing out of the 72-hole tournament yesterday.
A two-round total of eight-over 152 at the Abaco Club on Winding Bay course in Bahamas left the 40-year-old shy of the cut.
However, despite that disappointment West is happy to compete again on the international stage in his debut on the Korn Ferry Tour.
“It was a great experience and I’m thankful for the opportunity to play at this level again,” he told The Royal Gazette.
The former Tour de las Americas, Challenge and Canadian Tour player had his work cut out trying to make the cut after carding a five-over 77 in the opening round.
“I hit a couple of shots out of position that cost me,” said West, whose first round included an eagle, two birdies, two double bogeys and five bogeys.
The amateur player fared slightly better in the second round with 75, which included a birdie and four bogeys, but the damage had already been done.
“I played OK. It was a three-club wind today, so it was challenging for everyone,” West added.
“Course was tipped out so you had to golf your ball. Given the conditions, 75 wasn’t bad today.”
West is now exploring other potential overseas tournaments to compete in.
“I’m working on a couple of events in the spring but the details of those are still coming together,” he said.
West is coming off a successful 2023 campaign in which he made his PGA Tour debut in the Butterfield Bermuda Championship at Port Royal Golf Course.
