Quinton Sherlock Jr thrilled to be named BPGA president
Quinton Sherlock Jr says he is looking forward to the challenge of moving the Bermuda Professional Golfers Association forward and developing golf on the island in his new role as president.
The former Bermuda Junior Golf Association and Ocean View Golf Club president took over the helm after succeeding Scott Roy at the BPGA’s annual meeting, which was held at Leopards Club last Thursday.
“It’s a pleasure to be back on island and an honour to lead the Bermuda PGA,” Sherlock commented in a BPGA press release.
“I’d like to thank Scott Roy and his team for the work they’ve done. It is my intention to continue moving the organisation forward serving our members and developing golf on the island.”
Sherlock and Roy remained deadlocked when the initial vote ended in a tie and it was then that Roy decided to step down after serving in the position for the past six years, paving the way for Sherlock to take over the reins.
“I am excited that Quinton Sherlock wished to run as president,” Roy said. “I look forward to working alongside him and the rest of our committee.
“Quinton will bring new energy and ideas to our association and together we will represent our members and golf in Bermuda to the best of our abilities."
Sherlock holds a master’s degree in psychology from Auburn University and is also a Class A member within the Bermuda PGA ranks, certified Golfzon Leadbetter Golf Instructor and former Bermuda College lecturer.
The former Southampton Rangers cricketer is also an affiliate member of the Ghana PGA after residing in the West African country for ten years before recently returning home.
Sherlock heads up a new BPGA executive team that also comprises secretary and past president Roy, treasurer Chaka DeSilva, tournament chairman Chris Smith, Marshall Minors, Nick Jones and former president Kim Swan.
A special general meeting will be held to re-elect Steven Lambert Jr as vice-president at a venue and date yet to be confirmed.
